Our Heritage
The same family has held this property for five
generations since it was originally claimed under the Homestead Act.
There is a total of 100 acres available. It is
located in section 15, township 31 north, range 119 west of the 6th
principle meridian, Lincoln County, Wyoming. We are willing to
consider the sale of any portion of this property, however the most
logical size parcels would be; 35 acres, 40 acres, 70 acres, 86
acres or 100 acres.
The property is located less than 50 miles south
of Jackson Hole Wyoming as the crow flies. 70 miles, if you use the
road through “Snake River Canyon”. This property includes Old Bally
Ridge. This area is the top of the foothills above the town of
Fairview in the Southwest portion of Star Valley, about eight miles
Southwest of Afton, Wyoming. There is nearly half of a mile frontage
on the paved road to Fairview, which is less than 1 mile away.
Fairview is still a rural community. The kind you
think of when you hear the old song (Over the River and through the
Woods). Fairview is the town where Grandmothers house is. Fairview
is a special place and this is a special piece of property. Old
Bally, approx. 30 acres, is the only piece of property of its kind
in Star Valley or western Wyoming. From the large open flat expanse
of its top the view is 360 degrees. Southwest, less than two miles
distant, is the northern end of The Big Ridge. It’s covered with
pines and aspens. Our grandfathers and great grandfathers went here
to harvest timber that became our homes, and firewood to warm those
homes. Big Ridge stretches for miles. Small animals, foxes, coyotes,
rabbits, squirrels, badgers, pine martins, all are present. Larger
animals can be seen throughout the year as they come out mostly in
the evening and then melt back into the timber as the morning light
gives away their presence. It is common to see deer, elk and moose
from the top of Old Bally.
The South End and Forest Dell can be seen from Old
Bally, (the main entrance to Star Valley). We also see the entire
30-mile western front of the Salt River range to the east of the
upper valley. Most prominent are Cottonwood, Dry Creek and Swift
Creek canyons. All three canyons hold beautiful mountain lakes that
can be driven to or hiked to. Fishing here is not a futile effort.
Looking up the canyons we see the Greys River
Range and Wyoming Peak at over thirty miles distant. On a clear day
you feel you can reach out and touch it. A (not clear day) means
clouds or storm. No pollution or smog here.
A little further to the north we spy Grover Park
and the Narrows. Grover Park is a large natural opening, a true
forest park. A wonderful undeveloped open space used during summer
for camping, picnics and family reunions. In the winter the canyon
just before the park is used for a world famous snowmobile hill
climb. All of Star Valley is a snowmobile wonderland
On top of Old Bally we are twenty-five miles from
the narrows which separate the upper and lower valley. The towns of
the lower valley are screened from our view but we still see the
Salt River Range continuing north to of Snake River canyon, the
thoroughfare to Jackson Hole.
We have a clear unobstructed view of the entire
upper valley. Fairview is literally at our feet. We can see streams
converging from both sides of Star Valley to join with the Salt
River, a 50-mile plus premier trout stream.
West and northwest we can see the prominent hills
and canyons of the Caribou National Forest of Southeast Idaho. In
every other direction we can see the Bridger-Teton National Forest,
all of which is public access land.
A few miles distant we see Crow Creek. The road
through Crow creek Canyon is a fifty-mile drive through history.
Teams and wagons supplied the early needs of Star Valley
One ridge to the south of Crow Creek is Spring
Creek. About a mile from us, but right at our feet, we see both
creeks emerge from the canyons to join then meander through willows
and meadows to merge above Afton with the Salt River.
Immediately to the west is an expansive view of
Spring Creek. We see a few homes nestled amongst the side canyons
and meadows. Spring Creek road goes around the base of Old Bally and
continues a few miles up to the forest corrals. Maintained for
public use the corrals are a place to leave your truck and horse
trailer or a place to set up your tents or campers. Cross the fence
at the forest corrals and you enter the Bridger-Teton National
Forest. This forest is as close as you will ever come to seeing what
the original settlers of this land saw, unless you travel about
three hours northeast to the Windriver wilderness. Hundreds of
square miles of road-less wonders that stretch southeast from
Yellowstone past Dubois and Pinedale.
Star Valley has so much to offer! The Recreation
possibilities are endless.

wheeling, hiking, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling! We all
